Today the office of Fire District Secretary is one of the most crucial positions in supporting the operation of any fire district, irrespective of size. As a fire district secretary, you have the responsibility for keeping the records of the meetings, votes and proceedings in an organized way that allows (by law) the inspection of records by district residents. However, in recent years the roles and duties of the district secretary have expanded because of recent changes in NY State law requiring additional disclosure and posting requirements. Have you kept current with these new and changing legal requirements? Do you know and understand the full range of your responsibilities? If not … that would not be a surprise based on questions received by the association.
The Association offers this “Fire District Secretary” pre-recorded on-line training course to assist newly appointed or seasoned secretaries and other fire district officials acquire the knowledge and tools necessary to enable them to successfully manage all aspects of their responsibilities. The entire On-line Training program is 4 hours in length. The course encompasses topics relating to district elections, minutes, FOIL, Open Meetings Law and more. Online video e-learning makes it convenient and easy for Secretaries to remotely gain the knowledge they need at their convenience using a computer or other mobile devices.
